Lewis Dunk has emulated his distinguished predecessor as Albion captain.

Dunk led the Seagulls to their first ever win at Villa Park at the 13th attempt.

He did so on the day he celebrated his 29th birthday.

It is the latest long-running jinx that Albion have finally ended.

It is now a little over four years since they secured a first ever win at Hillsborough when beating Sheffield Wednesday.

That was perhaps a similar feel to Saturday in being a first success at one of the traditional big homes of English football - and in an important league match.

And that maiden Hillsborough success was on the day Bruno led them out on his 36th birthday.

Albion still have firsts to aim for this season.

They have, for example, never won away to Manchester United in 12 attempts – 11 at Old Trafford and one at their previous home Bank Street.

And, sadly of course, their fans have never seen them win at Villa.

Not in person, anyway, That is one to aim for next season.
