Jayson Molumby paid tribute to Albion's academy coaches after making his Premier League debut.
The Republic of Ireland international got on for the last couple of minutes as the Seagulls protected their 2-1 lead at Aston Villa.
He replaced Pascal Gross in the immediate aftermath of Tariq Lamptey's dismissal.
The substitution did not appear to be related to the red card.
Molumby was already prepared to enter the fray before Lamptey received his second yellow.
But he had quite a lengthy wait in the technical area before his dream came true.

He later tweeted: "Proud moment. Thanks to all the under-age coaches throughout the club for the last few years."
Molumby, 21, already has five senior caps for the Irish and started 31 Championship games while on loan at Millwall last season.
He comes from Cappoquin in County Waterford and joined the Albion youth set-up in 2015.
