How Albion players rated as individuals against Liverpool.

Not for the first time, the collective effort also impressed.

MATY RYAN 6

Surprisingly little to do and had no chance with the goal. Was deceived by what did not look a clean finish by Salah when the first one was disallowed. Calm on the ball.

BEN WHITE 8

Looks high class, especially with his reading of the game, although he was a little lucky when the Salah goal was ruled out. Liverpool wanted a red card for his challenge on Jota but it looked unavoidable contact after a good tackle.

LEWIS DUNK 7

Was fortunate with the narrow offside verdict when Salah got away from him but otherwise had his best game for a while.

ADAM WEBSTER 7

A quietly effective performance after an early warning from Salah on a long ball and he used the ball with confidence. Did well with the header whch converted a risky March pass into the move for the first penalty. Jota got past him quite easily for the goal.

JOEL VELTMAN 7

About as far as you can get from a like-for-like replacement for the banned Lamptey but brought a very tidy and effective interpretation of the wing-back role, as we probably knew he would. Is proving to be a really astute acquisition.

YVES BISSOUMA 8

Remember his “welcome to the Prem” moment when he lost possession at Anfield early in his Albion career and it led to the only goal? The road has not always been straight since then but he has come so far and again held things together very tidily. An unfortunate slip in the Liverpool attack which brought their goal.

PASCAL GROSS 7

Who would have fancied stepping up for that penalty? Superb composure and execution at the end of an afternoon in which he was less influential than is often the case as Albion went longer earlier.

SOLLY MARCH 8

Delivered the cross of the match which Jahanbakhsh should have headed home. Looking very at ease down the left and helped spark a strong finish to the game by the hosts.

NEAL MAUPAY 6

A case of what might have been. Some great work in the hole to send Connolly in for what should have been the opening goal. But penalty miss and injury ruined his afternoon.

DANNY WELBECK 7

Gives Albion a focal point and attacking presence and has certainly answered questions about his fitness after not having a proper pre-season.

AARON CONNOLLY 7

Brought in to run the makeshift defence ragged getting in behind and he did just that. Found some dangerous positions and was often found by colleagues. But that miss can’t be overlooked and makes it hard to throw a really high mark his way.

SUBS

LEANDRO TROSSARD 6

Good to see him back from injury but he really needs to be offering a bit more than this.

ADAM LALLANA n/a

A cruelly short-lived contribution.

ALIREZA JAHANBAKHSH n/a

Looked lively and hungry but should have done better with a chance to head home.
