Steven Alzate has helped set a great example to Albion’s youngsters.
The Colombia international joined the under-23s last night as they won 1-0 at Southampton.
Irish international Jayson Molumby and Max Sanders, who was a regular at Wimbledon in League One last season, were also among the midfield.
Alzate is keen to win back his places for club and country after slipping down the pecking order.
Under-23s boss Simon Rusk said: “The attitude of the older lads who came down was brilliant.
"We know the qualities of Rob Sanchez and Steven Alzate had to play in two or three positions on the night.
“But Steven’s body language was excellent and he got on with it.
“Jayson Molumby and Max Sanders were in the middle doing what they’re great at, and Jose Izquierdo has been good around the group as well.
“I was really pleased their application because that influences the other young players around them.”

Sanders scored the only goal and what Rusk termed a “young and makeshift” back four kept a clean sheet.
