Newcastle have become the first Premier League club unable to fulfil a fixture due to Covid-19.

The league this afternoon agreed their request to postpone Friday’s fixture against Aston Villa.

Newcastle’s training ground has been closed after the virus hit the staff.

The Magpies won 2-0 at Crystal Palace on Friday with three players already missing due to coronavirus.

Further tests will be given to the players and training ground staff this week.

Newcastle, Public Health England and the Premier League will then hold another meeting to assess the results and decide on the next course of action.

Steve Bruce's side are next scheduled to play at home to West Brom a week on Saturday.
