Adam Lallana has been backed to get on the goal trail for Albion - after a false start at Fulham.

The former Liverpool man tucked away a chance very tidily from close range.

But Danny Welbeck warned him the goal would be ruled out by VAR because the ball had hit the striker’s hand a moment earlier.

Albion would love to see Lallana open his account when Sheffield United visit today.

Head coach Graham Potter said: “His last couple of years at Liverpool, he didn’t play so much, so that affects his goal record.

“But Adam has the ability to finish, the ability to score.

“He brings a lot more than that but I’m pretty sure that, if you ask him, he would like to chip in with some goals, as we need from other areas of the pitch.

“It’s not just one area, it’s all of us as a team. We just have to find a better collective solution and that is what we are working to do.”

Despite the VAR call at Craven Cottage, Potter says we are not yet at the stage where players decline to celebrate until the goal has been rubber-stamped from Stockley Park.

Lallana certainly celebrated before Welbeck gave him the bad news.

THE TRUTH BEHIND THAT RECORD WINLESS RUN AT HOME

Potter said: “I think you saw Adam’s first instinct was to celebrate the goal.

“As soon as we are at the point where we’re not celebrating a goal because we are waiting for a check, we all should be worried.

“When the boys were talking, Danny said ‘I think it has hit my arm’ and Adam realised then that VAR would pick that up and it wasn’t going to be a goal.

“But at least he celebrated initially.”
