Albion’s opponents on Sunday Newport County have seen a crowdfunding page set up by fans to recoup money lost at the closed turnstile of their FA Cup tie.

Newport host the Seagulls at Rodney Parade, but with the game being behind closed doors they will lose out on money from the turnstiles, plus food and drink that would have been sold at the game.

However, Newport fan Jamie Roberts has set up a crowdfunding page and explained his reasoning for doing so.

He said: "Given the amount of money this upcoming match against Brighton and Hove Albion would have brought in, a couple of quid from every fan that would have gone through the turnstiles will help our club enormously.

"We have yet another Premier League team coming to Rodney Parade, but this time without the fans present.

"Think how much you would have spent buying a round of pints in Bar Amber, or a hot dog under the terrace. If we can all chip in with a few quid then it can go a long way for our club.

"As a fan-owned club, I feel we have a responsibility to help in every little way that we can. Be it financially, through volunteering, or just spreading the word about County.

"If you can't help in a financial sense then please do your best to spread the word about this project.

"All the money raised from this will go straight to the club, helping to keep County going as strong as possible in these tough financial times."

The aim is to try and raise £2,000.

Despite not receiving money through the turnstiles, with the game being picked by BT Sport for TV coverage, Newport and Albion will each get £75,000.

The winner of the tie will then receive £61,500 from The FA prize fund, with losing clubs receiving £20,500.
