Graham Potter admits he cannot rule out the possibility of the season being curtailed by Covid-19.

But Albion’s head coach said all measures are being taken to keep players and staff safe.

The Seagulls have yet to see a game called off this term due to Covid.

Their female counterparts have been affected by the virus.

Albion’s FSA WSL match at Bristol City today was called off due to two positive cases and five further close contacts within Hope Powell’s squad, leaving seven players isolating in total.

Asked about a scenario where the season is cut short by the virus, Potter said: “We cannot afford to think that’s not a possibility, because you just don’t know.

“We’re reacting to a virus and nobody knows.

“I’ve never lived through a situation like this before. What we do is we go back to what our brain knows previously, so we think about carrying on playing football matches.

“But actually, we’re in a pandemic and the numbers are horrific.

“So, we just have to do what we are told to do, in terms of doing our best, making sure we are safe and that we stick to the protocols, make sure we keep everything as safe as we can.

“But the situation that we’re in, in terms of what is happening outside of football, is very concerning and very worrying.

“The sooner we can get out of that situation the better for everybody.”
