Albion lost 1-0 to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
The only goal of the game came a minute before half time as skipper Kevin De Bruyne found Phil Foden on the left.
He turned away from two Albion defenders and then picked out the bottom left corner.
Davy Propper went closest for the Seagulls after Percy Tau's corner fell to him just outside the box, but his volley was straight at Ederson.
City were then denied by a combination of Robert Sanchez and the frame of his goal.
Ilkay Gundogan weaved his way into the box and then curled an effort which Sanchez saved.
Bernardo Silva pounced on the loose ball and then his effort rattled off the bar, before Gundogan's effort from a tight angle went wide.
City were handed a penalty in stoppage time after De Bruyne was brought down by Sanchez.
Substitute Raheem Sterling stepped up but blazed his effort over the bar much to the relief of the Albion keeper.
