Ex-Albion defender Liam Rosenior will take up the role of assistant manager at Derby after former England striker Wayne Rooney was confirmed as their new manager.

Rosenior was part of the coaching staff under former manager Philip Cocu until his sacking in November.

Later that month he was part of a group of coaches with Shay Given and Justin Walker that supported Rooney, who led the Derby coaching team.

However, this afternoon Rooney was given a two-and-a-half-year deal at the club and his appointment means he will now hang up his boots.

Rooney said: "Liam Rosenior is a fantastic coach, and he will be a great assistant."

Albion defender Matt Clarke is on a season-long loan at Derby and will be hoping to help them climb out of the relegation zone with his performances.
