Albion defender Tariq Lamptey was relieved to finally get his new contract sorted.

The 20-year-old signed a new four-year-deal on Sunday to extend his stay at the club until June 2025.

However, Lamptey admitted the deal took some time to get done.

He said: “It was not a surprise, it had been going on for a little while.

“But I was glad to get it sorted out.”

Lamptey has impressed with his performances since making his Premier League debut in June against Leicester.

He has become a key player for Graham Potter and has made 11 appearances so far this season, scoring one goal and getting three assists.

The full back is currently out with a hamstring injury which has seen him miss Albion’s last seven games.

But Lamptey is thankful to the club and the fans for making him feel welcome.

He said: “I am thankful to the club for giving me a new deal and am also thankful to all the supporters, as since I came to the club everyone has been so welcoming and that has allowed me to play my natural game.

“I came here to try and develop as a player, keep improving and play as many games as possible and I feel I have been able to play quite a few games and I am happy with that.

“I am also happy the club felt it was the right time to reward me with a new deal.”
