Albion head coach Graham Potter says they will take their time with defender Michal Karbownik.

The 19-year-old was recalled from his season-long loan at Legia Warsaw on Sunday.

He has made 14 appearances in all competitions this season for the Polish giants and has picked up an assist.

He has also shown his versatility having played at both left back, right back, and in midfield.

But Potter says that Karbownik will need time to settle in and recover from a slight injury he picked up last month.

He said: "He's just been settling in. He's not trained with the group, he's just been settling into the country and the club. That process will take a bit of time.

"He had a slight injury in Poland, so we are making sure that has cleared up.

"He's a young player with a lot of versatility, plays both sides, right or left, can play in midfield as well.

"His age will say he has got a lot to improve, but at the same time, he has got some interesting qualities as well.

"Technically he's very good, any player that can play both sides of the pitch is generally that.

"He has good intelligence, so we are looking forward to working with him.

Potter was asked whether he sees the young full back breaking through into the team this season or next, to which he replied: "You never know.

"If we are being honest, you'd probably have thought Tariq (Lamptey) would not do that when he first came in.

“Football should decide really, rather than having a preconceived idea about anything.

"Always be open-minded, think about the player as an individual, rather than what somebody else has done, and then make your own decision based on what you see every day and what the team needs."
