The last time Christian Walton started in goal for Albion at the Amex, his opposite number was Jason Steele.

That was in a 1-1 draw with Blackburn in November, 2014.

Walton makes only his third competitive appearance at the Amex today as he faces Blackpool in the FA Cup.

The previous two were in the same week of the 2014-15 season when Sami Hyypia named him in teams to face Wigan and Blackburn.

He must have made an impression because he went on to make a total of 111 league appearances on loan to those two Lancashire clubs.

Steele misses out today due to illness.

It is an unwanted repeat of history for the former Blackburn keeper.

Two years ago, he helped Albion through the third round, when they won at Bournemouth.

But he did not enjoy the reward of more game time as injury forced him out in the fourth round, when West Brom visited.

Walton’s most recent home outing saw Albion go 1-0 up on a Blackburn side for whom Shane Duffy played in defence.

Rudy Gestede’s towering header secured a 1-1 draw.

But do you remember the line-up Walton had in front of him that afternoon?

The back four comprised Inigo Calderon, Gordon Greer, Lewis Dunk and Joe Bennett (on loan from Aston Villa).

Rohan Ince, goalscorer Gary Gardner (also on loan from Villa) and Jake Forster-Caskey were in midfield.

Kazenga LuaLua and Elliott Bennett (on loan from Norwich) offered width and Sam Baldock led the attack.

During the second half, Paddy McCourt was sent on for Forster-Caskey.

Chris O’Grady made a late appearance in attack as sub for Baldock while Casper Ankergren, Greg Halford (on loan from Nottingham Forest), Danny Holla, Joao Teixeira (on loan from Liverpool) and Adrian Colunga remained on the bench.

Walton has made two appearances for Albion away from home, both in that 2014-15 season – at Tottenham in the League Cup ad Middlesbrough on the final day of the Championship season.
