Jayson Molumby has been urged to pile up the Championship minutes over the rest of the season.

The on-loan Albion midfielder played for Preston North End yesterday in their 1-0 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.

He is currently on 331 minutes in league and FA Cup for Preston after biding his time with the Seagulls in the first half of the season.

The likelihood is that Albion see him as a longer-term part of their own plans.

They will be watching his progress carefully this season.

Graham Potter has played down a suggestion from Preston boss Alex Neil that he would like to make the loan more permanent in the summer.

Potter said: "I think it is a normal thing to someone to say when they have got a loan player because Alex believes in the player.

"For us, Jayson recently signed a contract, it is important for him to play football, he expressed that desire to play regularly and that is what he is doing now.

WILL POTTER GO 'SAME AGAIN' AGAINST SPURS?

"The job is to then assess how that has gone and see where his development is, take the right decision for him and for the club.

"But we will do that at the end of the season. There is no doubt that Jayson is going to have a really, really good career.

"We believe in him, so we are just letting him play his football like Ben White did last year at Leeds United.

"It can be important for the guys to go and play and get regular football."

Molumby is under contract until the summer of 2023.
