How Albion players rated against Tottenham.

ROBERT SANCHEZ 8/10

Not under a barrage of shots but made two important saves in the second half. One like a handball goalkeeper to block Alderweireld’s header with his leg, then superb reactions and athleticism to tip away a shot by Vinicius. And he has a calming presence.

BEN WHITE 8/10

A big part of the defensive effort and got in one shuddering tackle to halt an attack in the second half. Almost added a goal with his effort which Lloris grabbed on the line.

LEWIS DUNK 8/10

Was his header sneaking in before Bale intervened? Maybe. What was in no doubt was another towering display at the centre of defence.

ADAM WEBSTER 8/10

Looked like he might in for a challenging evening as Bale started with the mission of exploring spaces down that side. But it never really materialised and the Welshman only lasted an hour. Was confident carrying the ball and made a big block early in the second half.

JOEL VELTMAN 7/10

More of the same down the right with defensive discipline and a sure touch on the ball which can help make room for others.

YVES BISSOUMA 8/10

Helped Albion get a stranglehold on proceedings, especially in the first half. Hassles others and is an assured recipient of passes deep in his own half.

PASCAL GROSS 9/10

It is always a pleasing show of intent when Gross (or Lallana) play in midfield rather than the more defensive White. So clever on the ball, from the curler against the post to the set-up for the goal – and to late on the game and a spring-heeled run which should have brought the killer second for Connolly.

SOLLY MARCH 7/10

Served up more of what we have become used to down the left, including the cross of the night when Maupay should have headed in. Some tough defending too.

ALEXIS MAC ALLISTER 9/10

Is such an inventive, creative player with ideas which catch opponents off guard. Played a huge part in arguably the best three moments of the game – Gross against the post, the goal and the Connolly chance. Might have been more accurate with his shooting but he can certainly hit a ball sweetly and is such fun to watch.

LEANDRO TROSSARD 8/10

Got into a great position to tuck away the crucial first goal. Was elusive in possession and always a handful for Tottenham.

NEAL MAUPAY 8/10

Effective in what he offers others, be it in the build-up to the early chance or getting hold of the ball. Should have eased nerves by heading from March’s cross and there are sometimes question marks over decision-making, but it was generally a very positive evening.

SUBS

DAN BURN N/A

Found Vinicius a handful on Spurs’ best effort but played a bg part in protecting the lead late on and getting the ball into the other half of the field.

ADAM LALLANA N/A

Sent on as a calming head and protector of possession and threw in a brave block to get his body in the way of a well-struck shot.

AARON CONNOLLY N/A

Some good work, not least in the build-up to his big chance with his lay-off and then movement off the ball. But he had to finish that chance, as brilliant as the clearance was.
