Eastbourne Borough manager Danny Bloor was full of praise for midfielder James Hammond after he scored a superb free kick to round off a 4-2 win against Billericay at Priory Lane last night.

The Sports took the lead in the 12th minute when Hammond’s corner was headed in by captain Charlie Walker.

That lead lasted just four minutes as Billericay levelled the game when Jake Nickless played a ball through to Toyosi Olusanya, who then drove his effort past Franco Ravizzoli and into the bottom corner.

The visitors then took the lead in first half stoppage time after they were awarded a penalty when Olusanya was brought down by Ravizzoli.

Rowan Liburd stepped up and scored to give the visitors the lead at the break.

Borough levelled the game in the 77th minute when substitute Dean Cox picked out Chris Whelpdale and he glanced his header past Harry Palmer.

Cox and Whelpdale combined again minutes later with the former Albion midfielder whipping in a corner, which Whelpdale headed in at the near post.

In the 87th minute, Hammond secured the win when his free kick from 20 yards out flew into the top corner.

Bloor was quick to praise Hammond for his goal and how well he has settled in at the club.

He said: “It was fantastic goal. Hammo has been a fantastic signing from Lewes and I think a compliment that you can give him is that this is his first season playing in the National League South, but it looks like he has been playing in it for many years.

“Both him and James Ferry have formed a fantastic partnership for us in the centre of midfield, so it was a fantastic goal.
