Eastbourne Borough’s season is over.

The National League’s North and South Divisions have been declared null and void, though the top tier will continue.

Borough had made no secret of the fact they were keen to play on.

They made it five games without defeat in the league on Tuesday as they came from 2-1 down to beat Billericay 4-2.

Their recent form has seen them move into third place in the Vanarama National League South - but promotion hopes are now over until next term.

A club statement released this evening and intended for supporters read: “As a board of directors we are as disappointed with this as I’m sure you all are.

“We will take time to digest and try to understand how this can be correct when there is a majority vote across all divisions to continue, and a majority vote across our own division to continue.”

Borough boss Danny Bloor spoke this week of his pride at their efforts.

He said: “It is five games now which is great, but you don’t get anything for that. there is a lot going on with what is happening, but we do not get ourselves involved with that.

“I know it is a cliché but we will prepare for the trip to St Albans on Saturday.”

Those plans are now over.
