Albion defender Joel Veltman insists they need to 'react' quickly to their 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace on Monday.

The Seagulls were beaten in the last minute of stoppage time with Christian Benteke scoring the winner at the Amex.

That result leaves them just four points above the bottom three as they prepare to face West Brom on Saturday (3pm, Sky Sports).

But Veltman knows that there needs to be a reaction from him and his teammates.

He said: "We have an opportunity to put things right on Saturday at West Bromwich Albion and it's an important game.

“Because of the defeat to Crystal Palace we're closer to the bottom three than we would want and we have to react.”

The Dutch international has been impressing for Albion at right wing back with Tariq Lamptey having been out with a hamstring since December.

Veltman opened his account for the club on Monday with a lovely first-time finish in the box.

But the defender admits he would have rather not scored and Albion won.

He said: “It's my first goal so I get some positivity from that, but as a group we were more disappointed in the dressing room than anything and personally I would rather not score and get the three points instead of scoring and not winning."
