We asked four long-time Albion fans for their thoughts on the game - and penalty-takers.

What were your thoughts on Albion’s performance?

Tim Ayling: Sigh. Same old story. Much the better team, no luck, no composure in front of goal.

James Heasman: I thought we were very disappointing in the first half, similar to Palace, ponderous in our build-up and a little lethargic. The second half, like Palace, was better, but for all the statistics, goals win matches and we are weak.

Alan Brownings: A shambles from start to finish. With the losses reported this month and the fact Tony Bloom will want the Amex full again ASAP, it will be interesting to see how long he continues to have the stomach for this.

Colin Beales: We made life hard for ourselves with ludicrous marking for their goal and could well have found ourselves another goal down, but mostly we bossed the game, forced a couple of pens and had a number of good chances. No Brighton fan needs me to point out the problem we have.

Who was your pick of the Albion players?

Tim Ayling: No one particularly stood out. Sanchez did well and was blocked for the goal. At a push, Gross and Veltman on pitch. Bissouma seems to have lost his magic.

James Heasman: Pre-match I was concerned that we wouldn’t have the stomach for a battle, and that seemed the case with one exception. Lewis Dunk, another captain’s performance.

Alan Brownings: How do you pick one? Percy Tau deserves a nod for the patience he’s showing on the bench, it’s difficult to see why we recalled him?

Colin Beales: Dunky - led the team well and quick thinking for what should have been a goal.

Do you retain faith goals will flow – and why?

Tim Ayling: No, because I don’t remember a time when they did flow. Even our recent good run was down to the defence. In the unbeaten six games, we only scored four goals. We need to hope Webster returns and we stop conceding.

James Heasman: All the time we continue to select players who are apparently lacking confidence, no I don’t. Although our options are limited, I believe Welbeck and Zeqiri, should be given an extended run, hopefully we will then turn the corner.

Alan Brownings: No, goals haven’t flowed all season, we’ve only scored more than once on six occasions, I can’t really see a glut coming now.

Colin Beales: I have to or else it’s not worth turning on the TV to watch next time.

Who would you put on penalties now?

Tim Ayling: Dunk. He seems to the only player we can trust with anything right now James Heasman: I’d keep Gross. Even the best players miss penalties. If he doesn’t want them, then Dunk probably.

James Heasman: I’d keep Gross. Even the best players miss penalties. If he doesn’t want them, then Dunk probably.

POTTER RETAINS BELIEF IN GOAL-GETTERS

WHY WELBECK STEPPED UP

Alan Brownings: There is a lovely old lady with a stick who sits a few rows in front of me at the Amex.... in all seriousness I’d give Tau a few games, and let him take it if one comes along.

Colin Beales: Gross has been pretty consistent on penalty duty. I know he missed but I’d give him the job next time.
