However, late last night she took to Twitter to confirm she has been diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma : "Three weeks ago I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

"I know the journey ahead will be difficult, but I want to face each obstacle with a positive mindset and help inspire others who have blood cancer too.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me so far".

Within that Twitter post there was a video where Stott revealed she will undergo an intense course of chemotherapy.

She said: “So it has travelled through my diaphragm which means it is stage three.

"It means I will do a more intense chemotherapy, so I will be doing four months of a 21-day cycle which will be pretty hard. There is a high risk I will lose my fertility, I will lose my hair and will feel pretty c**p.

"I think being an elite athlete helps with that I am very health, I am pretty fit and I can get fitter which I will do going into treatment.

"That will give me the best possible chance of coming out of the treatment even stronger.”
