Albion defender Fliss Gibbons cannot wait to get back out on the pitch after recovering from her battle with Covid-19.

The 26-year-old has not played since before Christmas after testing positive for coronavirus and needing time to get back up to full speed in training.

However, with the Seagulls having not played since February that has given her chance to get back up to speed and be available for the squad for their game against Tottenham this afternoon at The People's Pension Stadium (2pm).

But Gibbons cannot wait to be back out on the pitch.

She said: “I was ill for sort of 48 hours, where I probably had the worst symptoms of it and I think coming back to the pitch you could tell that I had been out for a while and I hadn’t been well.

“But I think it is the same with everyone that has had Covid probably it is a bit of a slow return to play and being careful.

“There is obviously strict guidelines we have to follow when we come back to training.

“But I would say I am sort of getting there now, I have been medically clear so I can be back in the squad now, but I still finding my feet in training now.”

In Gibbons absence, Albion had signed Finish international Emma Koivisto at the start of last month.

The 26-year-old full back has impressed in the wins over Chelsea and West Ham last month, but Gibbons is relishing the competition to regain her place.

She said: “The competition is brilliant all over the pitch. We have got two players for every position now. Emma has come in and she has been brilliant.

“It is good for us as well because she play at both left and right back, so again that gives us other options.

“She is an experienced international player so that is only going help us as a team and push us on.

“For me as well it is someone else I can learn off, which will help me improve as a player.”
