Former Albion skipper Gordon Greer believes injured Tariq Lamptey is a huge miss for them.

The 20-year-old looks set to miss the rest of the season as he recovers from surgery to repair a hamstring issue.

He has been missing since their 0-0 draw at Fulham in December and head coach Graham Potter revealed last week that he had suffered a setback in his recovery.

Greer, who was a key part of the Seagulls defence during his time at the club, believes having a player like Lamptey missing is a massive blow.

He said: “What they miss is his pace and energy. We have good players who have come into the team and filled in but nobody has got the pace or energy he has got. He is busy.

“When you take that out of the team, it is quite difficult.

“You miss him more than you actually think you would because he has so much energy and is willing to get up and down the wing.

“I’ve seen Lamptey play a number of times and what he brings to the team is that pace and energy, which is infectious.

“He gets after the ball and has got a lot of plaudits this season for his performances.

“But I think it is more for his work rate and attitude that people are looking at him and giving him credit.

“For me he has been excellent at getting up and down that right wing.”
