Albion fans checking the club’s line-ups will have spotted a familiar surname recently.

Jack Hinshelwood, son of former defender Adam, has made his debut for the under-18s.

He will start a scholarship at the age of 16 next season but has been given a taste of what to expect by going on as sub against West Ham and Chelsea.

The aim is to become the fourth generation of his family to make it into the professional ranks.

Jack, from Selsey, has grown up travelling around with his dad, who is manager of Isthmian League side Worthing and played 100 league games for the Seagulls before injuries took their toll.

But there is no undue family pressure on him to make the grade.

Adam said: “He has come with me to Worthing from a really young age and been brought up on that mentality 'three points on a Saturday afternoon'.

“He has followed us all around the south from nine or ten years old.

“I have had to stay out of it really in terms of his playing and let him get on with it.

“The only time I say anything is if I don’t think he is doing enough.

“But he has got the desire and drive to get there and he has worked hard.

“I want him to enjoy it. There is probably enough pressure on him already, knowing his great grandfather, his grandfather, his dad and great uncle all played.

“He knows all about the history within the family.

“I will go and support him and maybe give my opinion on how he plays.

“But that will be the same whether he is playing in the Premier League or the County League.

“He has now got a great opportunity for two years to go into a brilliant football club in wonderful facilities.

“If you don’t enjoy and embrace that, you are never going to enjoy anything.”

Jack’s great grandfather Wally played for Fulham, Chelsea, Reading and Bristol City.

KEY MESSAGE TO 'UNBELIEVABLE' YOUNG ALBION TALENT

Wally’s sons Paul and Martin both played for Crystal Palace with Martin going on to coach and manage Albion.

Martin’s son Danny, who is Jack’s uncle, played at full-back for Albion and Portsmouth.

Adam is Paul’s son and followed the family tradition of playing in a defensive role.

But, as a forward-looking midfielder, Jack could change all that.

Adam said: “How did that happen? I don’t have a clue!

“He will probably end up working his way back!

“Probably my uncle (Martin) was the only central midfield player in the family.

“The rest of us were all defenders.

“He is technically good, has got a good range of passing.

“And he likes to get forward and get goals as well, so he’s a bit different to all the other Hinshelwoods!”

Albion beat West Ham 2-0 and Chelsea 3-2 with Marcus Ifill scoring twice in each match.

Their FA Youth Cup tie at Aston Villa has been scheduled for Wednesday March 24 (7pm) at Villa Park.
