Jakub Moder has been touted for a first Albion start – in central midfield.

The Seagulls are assessing options for the trip to Southampton.

Adam Lallana looks set for a start in an advanced role against his former club.

Yves Bissouma has been a regular in front of the back three, although he did not start the win at Leeds.

Alexis Mac Allister played in there alongside Bissouma against Leicester and did a good job in the first half.

Steven Alzate was Bissouma’s sidekick at the start of the season and Pascal Gross operated in that role in recent matches.

Now BBC Sussex summariser Warren Aspinall has pushed Moder’s credentials for a place in the engine room.

Aspinall sees midfielder James Ward-Prowse and Ibrahima Diallo as the “heartbeat” of the Saints side.

That is where he believes Moder could do a job.

Aspinall told the Albion Unlimited podcast: “We have to match them in there.

“They have got pace and we have got to work very hard.

“I wouldn’t be too concerned if we throw the Polish lad in.

“I think, if he is good enough and he is showing things in training, I’d go Bissouma and him in centre midfield and then let the flair players play in front of those two.”

Davy Propper has been a regular in central midfield in the last three campaigns but has hardly played this season.

Potter was asked about the midfield berth alongside Bissouma after his side lost 2-1 to Leicester.

He told The Argus: ”Pascal and Alexis have played well. It’s not so long ago we were in a good run.

“Even in this non-winning run, if you analyse the Aston Villa performance, it was really good.

GREER GIVES HIS ALBION VERDICT

“If you analyse Crystal Palace, it was a good performance.

“At West Brom we missed two penalties. Not a fantastic performance but certainly not a bad one.

“They have all contributed to that so I think it’s important we have some stability.

“As always we are trying to improve but I think those two (Gross and Mac Allister) have done well.”

Albion do not have an obvious replacement for injured Solly March as left wing-back all the time Dan Burn is needed more centrally.

The Seagulls have missed what March offers going forward.

Mac Allister was a threat playing wide on the left for Argentinos Juniors and Boca Juniors, although he was never used as a wing-back.
