Moises Caicedo continued his progress with the full 90 minutes for Albion under-23s as they were held to a goalless draw by ten-man Manchester United.

It was the Ecuadorian’s second game for the 23s since joining the Seagulls last month.

He played at the heart of the midfield for Albion and was denied in the second half three times by Matej Kovar, who made a number of good saves to keep the visitors at bay.

United were reduced to ten men in the seventh minute, after Teddy Jenks played a nice ball in behind to Ayo Tanimowo, who had made a great run from right back and Will Fish pulled him down right on the edge of the box, which led to him being sent for an early bath.

The Seagulls’ best chance of the half fell to full-back James Furlong, after a cross from Tanimowo was deflected into his path.

He then shifted the ball on to his right foot and curled an effort towards goal, which looked destined for the top corner until Kovar got a hand to it.

Caicedo then had three chances to score his first goal for the club.

The first came after he intercepted a poor pass from Kovar, who tried to play it short from a goal kick. He then drove into the box before seeing his effort saved by the keeper.

The second came from Teddy Jenks’ delivery from a corner, which fell to the midfielder at the back post, but his effort was saved.

Caicedo was then denied once again by Kovar after he made for room for a shot just outside the box.

But his curling effort was well pushed away by the Czech youngster.

Evan Ferguson then missed a glorious chance late on to secure all three points for Albion, after he found himself unmarked six yards out, but his header just went of the post.

The point means Albion remain ninth in the BPL 2, but move to within a point of Liverpool in eighth.
