Albion head coach Graham Potter is pleased for goalkeeper Robert Sanchez after he received his first call-up for Spain earlier this week.

The 23-year-old was named in Luis Enrique’s squad on Monday for their three World Cup qualifiers, versus Greece (in Granada), Georgia (in Tiblisi) and Kosovo (in Seville) at the end of this month.

It has been quite the rise for Sanchez, who has gone from playing in League One for Rochdale this time last year, to Albion’s No.1 and receiving his first senior call-up for his country.

But Potter was full of praise not just for Sanchez, but for goalkeeping coaches Ben Roberts and Casper Ankergren.

He said: “I am very pleased for him, I am very pleased for Ben and Casper who have worked with him and all the guys in the academy.

“It is a great story, we are delighted of course as a club and it is a reward for Rob for his work with us and his development since he has been with us and everybody connected with the club that has helped with that.”
