Matt Prior has helped Sussex shape up for their second game of the new season.

The former England wicketkeeper joined training ahead of today’s LV= Insurance County Championship clash away to Glamorgan.

Sussex have been keen to tap into the knowledge and experience of former players on an informal basis.

Prior joined Sarah Taylor, who is on the coaching staff, to put keeper and skipper Ben Brown through his paces at the 1st Central County Ground.

Sussex have travelled to Cardiff with the same squad as opened the season by drawing away to Lancashire.

Phil Salt, who suffered a foot injury in a cycling accident recently, remains absent.

It is unclear when the free-scoring batsman will return but it is understood he is being lined up for a role coming in two wickets down rather than at the top of the order.

Sussex coach Ian Salisbury enjoyed seeing his young side go toe to toe with Lancashire in what was a very competitive duel until snow cut the action short.

He said: “The trip to Old Trafford demonstrated exactly how we want to play our cricket this year.

“From the toss onwards we made brave decisions with the aim of giving ourselves the best chance of winning the game, our intensity levels were superb, and the guys had each other’s backs and showed they won’t back down.”

Will Beer and Ali Orr travelled with the 12-man squad as reserves.

Orr, the 20-year-old Eastbourne batsman who recently signed his first professional contract, got into the action at Old Trafford as 12th man and produced some keen fielding.
