Albion will be hoping to break another unwanted record against Chelsea on Tuesday.

The Blues are the only club that Albion have never beaten in a league game, in 11 attempts.

They picked up their only point against Chelsea in the league last season in their 1-1 draw at the Amex in January 2020, where Alireza Jahanbakhsh scored his last Premier League goal with that superb overhead kick.

Prior to that, the Seagulls had lost the previous 10 matches.

Albion head to Stamford bridge, which has not been a happy hunting ground for them.

They are yet to pick up a point in the league there on their previous five visits, with the only other Premier League grounds they have failed to win at in more attempts is Goodison Park and Old Trafford (both 8).

Albion have also never scored a league goal at Stamford Bridge on those five previous visits.

The only time they have had a worse run against an opponent on their own ground, was between 1980 to 1990, where they had six blanks against West Brom.

They also had six blanks against Swindon in the 1920s.

The last time that Albion won a game against Chelsea at the Bridge was back in January 1933, as they won 2-1 won in an FA Cup tie.

But club historian Tim Carder explains that the Seagulls have had further successes against the Blues in wartime league games.

He said: “The first four matches were FA Cup games, and we won the first 2-1, in January 1933. That was our first and last win against them.

“But in fact, we have beaten them three times at Stamford Bridge in Second World War wartime league games but these are not normally counted in statistics.

“We have also played at Stamford Bridge seven times as a neutral venue, winning five and losing two.

“The most famous was in 1910 which was a 1-0 win against Aston Villa in the FA Charity Shield.

“The most recent neutral game there was losing 1-0 to Crystal Palace in an FA Cup first round, second replay in 1976 that did not do much to contribute to the rivalry between the clubs.”

This season has been one of firsts for the Seagulls in terms of winning away from home.

They ended their long wait for victories at both Villa Park and Anfield in the league, as well as winning at Deepdale at their 17th attempt in the Carabao Cup early on in the season.

If they could pick up a first league win at Stamford Bridge, it would help Albion take another step closer to securing their top-flight status next season.
