Coventry Boss Mark Robins would love to have Viktor Gyokeres back at the club next season.

The striker had a tough first half of the season on loan at fellow Championship side, Swansea where he failed to make the impression he would have hoped.

His season-long loan ended early in January and he then joined Coventry for the rest of the season.

Since joining the Sky Blues, the 22-year-old has had to bide his time and wait for his chance.

But after coming off the bench and scoring this month in the win over Bristol City and Stoke, he got his first start since February in the defeat to Preston.

However, Robins would jump at the chance to bring Gyokeres back next season.

He said: “I would consider him all day because as a young striker he’s got that desire and mentality, so yeah, I’d definitely consider him for moving forward. One hundred per cent.”

The Sky Blues have the second lowest budget in the Championship this season, so any move for Gyokeres next season would more likely be on loan again.

But that all depends on what Albion’s plan are for the striker.

Robins also feels that Gyokeres is starting to achieve his potential, having scored two goals in his last six games.

To which he replied: “Yeah I do. He showed glimpses of it at the start.

“When we threw him in at the start, and I remember the game at Swansea which was difficult going back and leading the line, and he found that tough coming into a new club having left that one after half a season.

“And then to try to change things slightly to be incorporated, he ended up getting a goal against Sheffield Wednesday in a performance level that was good.

“But yes, he’s a young player who I feel is in the most difficult position as a striker on the pitch, you have a player there who is learning his trade and trying to get into a team like ours.

“He’s been frustrated at times but he has stuck with it and I saw something flipped in him and he then became part of the group.

“And that’s testament to his character because he could have gone and sulked and gone under but he’s not done that.

“You can see that he’s thriving and chomping at the bit. They all are, they all want to play and that’s a good thing for me because I have said to him that at some point it flips. At the minute he’s coming on from the bench but then that flips because you are getting those minutes and those moments and experience and all of a sudden you’re ready to start.

“And that will be the same with Vik.”
