Match of the Day pundits Micah Richards and Ian Wright were full of praise for an ‘exquisite’ finish and performance from Albion striker Danny Welbeck in their win over Leeds.

The 30-year-old scored his fifth goal of the season in their 2-0 victory at the Amex yesterday afternoon with a great turn and finish.

The Argus:

That means he has now scored five goals in the Premier League for the first time since the 2017/18 season, where he netted five times in 28 appearances for Arsenal.

However, he has managed the five goals for the Seagulls in seven fewer appearances.

But former Manchester City defender Richards, who played against Welbeck in Manchester derbies, was full of praise not just for his goal but for his performance against Leeds.

He said: “It was an excellent finish, but not only that it was a good performance from Welbeck as well. He has had a lot of injuries and he plays in a variety of different positions.

“He gets the penalty to start with by being a nuisance in the box.

“But you also find him popping up in these positions where he likes to go one-on-one with the defender and on this occasion, he just drags it wide.

“But this finish here is nothing short of exquisite with his left foot.

“If you see it on the replay to that all in one motion, keeping your head down, on his left foot on his weaker was brilliant.”

Former Arsenal and England striker Wright who was a pundit alongside Richards on Match of the Day believes Welbeck showed a glimpse of what he is capable of with his goal.

He said: “It was a beautiful finish and it was what everyone was expecting from Danny when he first broke through at Manchester United.

“But he has injuries and that goal is just a flash of what he can do.

“I’m delighted for him as he has signed there for him to help Brighton and he is helping them.”
