Travis Head could make his Sussex debut this week.

The Australia star arrived in Hove early on Friday and has been in quarantine.

It is understood he could face Northants on Thursday, subject to a negative Covid test.

Head was initially due to play for the county last season but that was put back due to the global pandemic.

He will add experience to a young but exciting county line-up.

Sussex skipper Ben Brown said: “I really look forward to seeing Trav.

“I have heard really good things about him as a person as much as anything, which I think is so crucial as an overseas player.

“You need a good person who is going to help these young guys develop on and off the field as well as, obviously, the performances he can bring.

“I’m looking forward to his help as well as a leader.

“I know he has captained South Australia back home and Adelaide Strikers so that will be really useful for me as well.”

Jofra Archer is expected to play a second team match this week with a view to then facing Kent in the Championship at Hove.

The England star has recovered from a hand injury.
