Alex Cochrane has signed a new one-year-deal with Albion, which will keep him at the club until June 2022.
The 21-year-old defender had spent the second half of this season on loan at the Belgium side Union St Gilloise, where he made seven appearances and picked up one assist, before an ankle injury ended the loan early.
But Cochrane is expected to be fit for the start of the next season.
Albion's loans manager David Weir said: “Alex had a really good experience out in Belgium with Union and, as he’s spoken about, it has been really beneficial for both him as a person and as a footballer.
“While that development was curtailed slightly by injury, he showed how well he can adjust and learn during his time out on loan, which is a testament to him, especially during the pandemic. I am pleased to see he will be continuing his development with us."
