Brighton-born jockey Ryan Moore rode Japan to his first win since August 2019 this afternoon by winning the tote+ Pays You More At tote.co.uk Ormonde Stakes at Chester.

The five-year-old, who is trained by Aiden O’Brien, was sent off as the 7/4 favourite to narrowly beat second favourite Trueshan, who was ridden by Hollie Doyle, by three quarters of a length.

Albion Chairman Tony Bloom’s horse Withhold has been in second up until the final three furlongs where it faded and ended up finishing last after going off at a 25/1 shot.

Moore’s first ride of the day came in the 2:15 Chester: Dee Stakes on Ontario, which finished last out of the seven runners and eight lengths behind the winner El Drama, ridden by Andrea Atzeni.
