Danny Cashman has been urged to fire in goals in the EFL after being let go by Albion.

The 20-year-old forward from Crawley was among players released by the under-24s recently.

Albion youth team boss Mark Beard admits it was a tough call to let players go.

But he believes it can for their long-term benefit.

Cashman was at Crawley Town until he was 12, then moved to Albion after an initial six-week trial.

He impressed with the Seagulls' under-23s late in the season.

It is understood he has already offers for next season.

Beard said: “I had him at under-15s, under-16s, then was his manager for two years.

KEY QUESTIONS IF DANNY WELBECK IS TO SIGN A NEW DEAL

“He has had two years with the 23s but you've got to look at their pathways as well.

"If he was going to be here next year, there are players underneath coming up.

“Are we blocking their pathways, so are we keeping Danny here for the sake of it? Danny is a great player but is he going to play first team? Probably not, so we all need to move on.

"It's not nice, he's been part of the family for so long but for us to help him he has to move on.

“He may have to go to a Crawley Town or something, bag 20 goals and get another move, but we won't know that until he makes the move.”
