Graham Potter has revealed the balancing act Albion will face when they put together their squad for next season.

The Seagulls have now secured safety for next season.

They will be able to name a 25-man group for the next Premier League campaign.

In reality, Albion can have a squad bigger than that given their use of young players who are not counted in the 25.

The balance comes in having enough players - but not so many that some do not feel part of the action.

Head coach Potter said: “I haven't got a perfect number to hold the club to ransom to. It depends on the players, where they're at.

"You can probably carry a couple more, for example, if they're younger players.

"If you've got players that are more senior, expecting more game time, then the number needs to be a little bit lighter.

"My job is head coach, I want to help and support the club in terms of what the right thing is for the balance of the group and also for the financial situation of the club as well, you need to do the right thing by that.

"I'm quite adaptable, I don't necessarily need a specific number, but I also think that players need to feel they're close to playing and there's healthy competition.

"It gets hard if players feel they're miles away from the team. You can understand as human beings to maintain motivation when all they want to do is play football, it's not so easy.

"We have to understand that. At the same time you have to respect it from the club's perspective.

“If you are in the Premier League, you can't have a squad of 11.

TOO EASY TO CRITICISE LEWIS DUNK'S SNAP DECISION, SAYS POTTER

“You've got to have players that are there to compete and part of the challenge of the PL is that the squads are big and there's competition.

"If you want easy game time then drop down a level and play, but that might affect your salary as well."
