Albion head coach Graham Potter made a bold decision early on in the season, by putting his faith in Robert Sanchez and making him the NO.1 over Maty Ryan and the stats show why he was right to do so.

Sanchez had been playing in League One last season for Rochdale, but has made quite the impact since coming into the side.

In his 24 games so far in the Premier League, the Spaniard has kept 10 clean sheets, which means (41.7%) of his appearances have been shutouts.

If you compare that to Ryan who kept two clean sheets in his 11 appearances for the Seagulls, which means (18.75%) of his games have been shutouts.

When you looks at Ryan’s clean sheets record in previous seasons for Albion the best he recorded was ten in his debut season in the Prem in 2017/18.

In Potter’s first season in charge of the Seagulls, the Australian international kept nine clean sheets, so Sanchez has bettered that tally, with three matches left to go in this campaign.

The 23-year-old also comes out on top in terms of save percentage.

Sanchez (74%) has the seventh best save percentage in the League, with only Leeds Ilian Meslier (74.6%), Liverpool’s Allison (74.7%), Spurs’ Hugo Lloris (75.2%), Manchester City’s Ederson (76.3%), Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez (76.6%) and Burnley’s Nick Pope (77%) have a better percentage.

When you compare that with Ryan during his time at Albion he had a save percentage of just 50%.

But with three matches left in the Prem, Sanchez’s stats could look even more impressive come the end of his debut season.
