Match of the Day pundit Leon Osman believes Albion could face competition from other Premier League clubs to secure Danny Welbeck’s services next season.

The 30-year-old striker scored his sixth goal of the season in their 1-1 draw with West Ham at the Amex.

That goal means it is now his best goal return in the Premier League since the 2013/14 season, where he netted nine times for Manchester United.

His strike against West Ham was also his 50th Premier League goal in his 247th appearance in the division.

However, his deal with Albion ends in the summer and Osman believes plenty of clubs in the Prem would benefit from having a player of Welbeck’s quality, including his former side.

He said: “I think it would be good signing for any team, I think there will be a number of Premier League teams and managers that will be looking and seeing his quality.

“The issue for him has been remaining fit and there could be some teams out there, mine (Everton) in particular who could come in and get 15-20 goals a season and give that balance because there is no doubt about his (Welbeck’s) quality.”

Former England international Karen Carney, who was a fellow pundit on the Match of the Day was full of praise for substitute Percy Tau, who made quite the impact after coming off the bench.

It was the 27-year-old's first action in the Prem since January and after having to bide his time to get on the pitch, the South African international played a key role in the goal.

He drifted in from the right and found a pocket of space, before then threading a lovely pass into the path of Welbeck, who applied a great finish.

But Carney highlighted how Tau’s movement made the goal.

She said: “I was impressed with Tau who came on, you see his movement for the goal is really smart.

“When Brighton win the ball back, he peels off the shoulder of Declan Rice and then Rice does not know where he is, he is kind of caught in no man’s land.

“Tau then plays a really cleaver ball and it is a fantastic finish from Welbeck.”

Osman also praised both Tau and Welbeck’s movement.

He said: “You would expect him (Welbeck) to finish that when he gets into those positions, but the movement from both him and Tau is great.

“They just pull into positions off the shoulder of the defenders for just a moment where they cannot be seen and they then spring into action.

“It is terrific from them both and I love the way Welbeck celebrates it.

"I love how much that goal still meant to him at this stage in his career, at this stage in the season where people are saying they have nothing to play for.

“I really enjoyed it.”
