It must take a lot to wipe the smile off Alex Revell's face.

The Albion striker was still full of festive cheer despite a thoroughly depressing Christmas week being capped with defeat at Yeovil.

The Seagulls went into the holiday period determined not to self-destruct in the same manner as last season when a dismal run of results saw what had once been a play-off challenge turn into a battle against relegation.

But a Boxing Day knockout at Millwall followed by the news that fans favourite Bas Savage had rejected a new contract and a stinging attack from George O'Callaghan on chairman Dick Knight has raised fears that this season will end go the same way as the last.

Victory at Huish Park would have helped restore morale and Revell looked to have set Albion on course for three vital points when he opened the scoring in the 18th minute.

Unfortunately it proved a false dawn as the Glovers took advantage of a team which looked in a state of shock after the events of the previous few days to come back and win 2-1.

But Revell was quick to quash any suggestion that things are not quite as they should be within the Albion camp following their recent traumas and instead preferred to look forward to a brighter new year.

He said: "The build up to the game wasn't good but we came into it knowing full well we needed the three points and we weren't thinking about anything else.

"The result was disappointing but we are a family and will bounce back from this if we stick together.

"Every member of the squad along with the gaffer and the staff are part of the family and together we will go forward.

"Obviously we are bitterly disappointed because we badly wanted to get a win after what has happened but weve just got to dust ourselves down and get ready for Tuesday.

"We are stronger than we were at this time last year so we have just got to concentrate on getting back to doing what we are good at.

"It has not been a great week for us but Forest have lost two on the spin as well so you have got to put it into perspective."

Although the trip to Somerset was not a positive one for Albion it was for Revell on an individual level.

Savage's departure meant he started his first game for two months and marked his return with only his third goal of the season.

The striker was unable to win back his place from Savage after undergoing surgery on a hernia at the end of October but is now looking forward to an extended run in the side.

Not that the ultimate team-man would ever dream of putting his personal ambitions ahead of the club's.

Revell added: "It was great to come back and score a goal but it is disappointing it didn't earn us a result. I would have rather have not scored and won 2-0.

"It has been difficult for me since my injury but that has been because the boys have been doing well.

"I have had to sit on the bench and watch for a while and although it is frustrating you don't mind because it means the side is getting results.

"I knew full well I would have to work hard to get back into the side and it was nice to score when I got my chance.

"But it is more about us than me at the moment so hopefully I can help us get back on the right road as quickly as possible.

"I'd love to get a run of games but at the end of the day I know I have got to play well to do that as we've got some good forwards at the club.

"If I can keep scoring that is not only going to help me but it will help us as a side and that is the main thing."

Is Alex Revell a good strike partner for Nicky Forster?
