Brighton are in talks with Ajax about signing their young keeper Kjell Scherpen.
The 21-year-old joined Ajax in July 2019 from FC Emmen.
However, he has found game time hard to come by this season making just four appearances for the Dutch Giants.
One of those appearances came in the Europa League in the first leg of their quarter-final against Roma at the Amsterdam Arena last month, where he made a huge mistake for Roma’s winners palming Ibanez’ free kick into his own net.
Scherpen got the nod in goal with their No.1 Andre Onana being banned from football for a year for a doping violation and the vastly experience Maarten Stekelenburg out injured.
The Argus understands that no agreement is in place between the two clubs, although Ajax are not keen on selling Scherpen.
If the Dutch prospect does join Albion, he will head back out on loan to the Netherlands to aid his development.
But if they want to sign him, they will have to pay a fee of around five million euros.
But just who is Scherpen?
Well he is certainly a commanding presence at 6 foot 8 inches.
He made his name at FC Emmen after breaking through their academy where he made 36 appearances and kept four clean sheets.
That form saw him called up to the Netherlands U19’s squad in 2018, where he made his debut in September of that year in a friendly against an England side, which included Jadon Sancho and Phil Foden.
He then earnt his first call for the Netherlands U21's in May 2019, before joining Ajax two month later.
Scherpen has been capped eight times for the U21's and has played in all three of their UEFA European U21’s Championship group games in March.
On Monday the Netherlands play their quarter final of the Euros against favourites France at the Bozsik Arena in Budapest with the game being shown live on Sky Sports.
