England boss Gareth Southgate has explained why he delayed the decision to name a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The Liverpool defender withdrew from the squad on Thursday night after limping off late on in their friendly against Austria on Wednesday.
Southgate must now decide who to draft from his list of standby players which includes Brighton defender Ben White.
But the England boss reveals why he was in not rush to name a replacement straight away.
He said: “We want to see how we get through tomorrow’s (Sunday) game as well and be able to assess everything and then we’ll make a decision from there."
“So there isn’t a rush.
"I think it’s important to have time to consider everything and we’re obviously talking about that as a coaching staff.
“We will know more after tomorrow’s game on where everybody is physically, whether there are any more issues and it is important we get the positional balance right for the whole squad.”
