Ben White insists he is not nervous as he prepares for the first major international tournament of his career.

The Albion defender is preparing to tackle Euro 2020 with England.

He had never represented England at any age level before his call-up to Gareth Southgate’s provisional 33- man squad.

After Trent Alexander-Arnold withdrew from the squad on Thursday and White caught the eye on his full debut against Romania, he was picked by Southgate to take the vacant spot in his final 26-man squad.

White is feeling relaxed and confident about the tournament ahead.

He said: “No (nerves at all) I have played in all the leagues.

“Before playing in all the leagues I was wondering if I could step up to the next level and year on year I have managed to do it and to me, this is just another one of them.”

White faces stiff competition for a place in the team with plenty of competition in the defence for Southgate to choose from.

The centre-back has revealed what Southgate told him on Monday when he phoned to inform him of his place in the Euros squad.

He said: “I spoke to him on the phone when he told me the news.

“We spoke about the game I played the other day against Romania, and he just told me to believe in myself and I’m here for a reason and just to do what I do.”
