Crawley have signed midfielder Jack Payne from National League side Eastleigh on a one-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

The 29-year-old spent his last three years in the National League with Eastleigh.

Last season he made 41 appearances in all competitions scoring one goal.

The midfielder broke through Gillingham's youth academy as the age of 16.

After spending five seasons at Gillingham, he then went on to spent a year at Peterborough.

He has also had spells with Leyton Orient, Blackpool and Ebbsfleet.

But Payne is delighted to sign.

He said: “I’m happy to be here, it all happened quite quickly but I’ve known the Gaffer for years which made it easy for the deal to cross the line.”

Reds boss John Yems has watched Payne was a long time.

He said: “I knew Jack from the Gillingham days, I’ve closely watched his career over the years and he’s a different kind of player that will compliment the team well for next season.”
