Bas Savage revealed today that he felt "insulted" by Albion's contract offer.

The former Gillingham striker is kicking his heels after rejecting an 18-month deal from the Seagulls.

Savage, whose contract ran out on New Year's Eve, said: "I haven't got anything lined up and yet I was still willing to turn Brighton down, which shows how strongly I feel.

"I am quite insulted by their offer. The same thing happened at Gillingham - they gave me a chance and I did reasonably well.

"I wanted them to then offer me something better, more substantial and long term, and they failed to do that. I made a promise to myself I wouldn't let that happen again in my career.

"At first there wasn't a change in the wages Brighton offered. We made a bit of a song and dance about that and, after weeks of debating, it changed slightly. They might as well have not changed it at all.

"I would also have been into my final season again next season and I didn't want that, I wanted to have at least two and a half years.

"I feel really hurt about it, because something good is happening at Brighton.

"The lads feel it, the manager feels it and I think the fans feel it. With a few more bodies we had something going, even if we just miss out on promotion this time.

"With the new stadium on the horizon things are on the up and I am sad I cannot be a part of it."
