Stand-in skipper Chris Jordan was proud of his Sussex side after they kicked off the Vitality Blast with a comeback win.

He picked out Phil Salt (77 not out) and George Garton (46) for their partnership which took Sharks, chasing 178, from 52-4 to the brink of their five-wicket win.

They put on 92, the best ever fifth-wicket stand by a Sussex pair in T20.

Jordan led the side in the absence of Luke Wright, who has suffered a hand injury.

He said: “I’m very proud of the boys.

“The way George and Salty played were very mature innings, big innings.

“It’s quite exciting for the team in the sense that we have so much firepower.

“We almost looks as through we lost the game in the powerplay but they stayed positive, kept hitting gaps, kept putting away bad balls and kept putting the bowlers back under pressure, which is what we ask for all the time.

“It was a great win.”
