Albion are hoping for good news from Boris Johnson as they plan to welcome back big crowds at the Amex.

The Prime Minister is due to update tomorrow on the next stage of a return to normality after lockdown.

He has said in the past that the earliest date remaining restrictions could be lifted is June 21 – a week tomorrow.

Premier League clubs discussed the situation during their two-day meeting in Harrogate last week.

They are keen for there to be no delay in the next stage of the release from lockdown.

Albion hope to see capacity crowds at the Amex from the start of the season – and a big gathering for a prestigious friendly they have planned for the start of August.

A well-placed source said: “If we are to have fans back in full, what we don’t need is any delay.

“If the delay is a couple of weeks, I don’t think it affects August at all.

“If it’s a month or more, maybe it will.

“We need to understand what Government intention is.”

With foreign travel likely to remain a complicated business, Albion have no plans to leave the country during pre-season as they prepare for their fifth Prem campaign.
