Crawley boss Steve Evans insists the proposed club takeover will not put his own position under threat.

An unnamed party is expected to complete a deal to buy Reds when they return to the country at the end of the month.

A change of ownership often coincides with a change of manager at many clubs as the new chiefs bring in their own man to take the reigns.

But Evans, who was appointed in the summer by owners Chas Majeed and his late father Abdul, has been told he is the man the prospective new bosses want to take the club forward.

He said: "From my point of view, I have a fantastic relationship with the Majeeds and my understanding is that the new potential purchasers want me to be a major part of what they are trying to do."

Evans is not waiting for the takeover to go through before plunging into the January transfer market.

He is close to signing two players and hopes to have the deals done before Saturday's trip to bottom side Droylsden.

He said: "We are hoping to do a bit of business. One player is at League Two level and one is in the Conference.

"The Conference club are happy for us to have him but he is coming from the north and needs to sort out his flat.

"The League Two player is someone we have liked for a long time but his club are not so sure, they still see him as playing a part. They said they would give me a definite on it by the end of the week.

"If we bring in one or two there maybe one of two going out but we are not under pressure to reduce the wage bill.

"I'm probably under personal pressure to increase it because I have had money available since September but I'm not going to spend it for the sake of it."
