Danny Welbeck cannot wait to excite Albion fans at the Amex.

The former England striker is on board for next season after signing a new one-year deal.

Welbeck scored a late equaliser in front of 2,000 supporters to salvage a 1-1 draw at home to Sheffield United.

But he had to make an early exit when 8,000 returned for the end-of-season thriller against Manchester City.

Welbeck scored six goals last season but made it clear he believes there is better to come as he put pen to paper on his new contract.

That will mean thrilling packed houses at the Amex.

He said: “We didn’t get to see much of the supporters last season so that was disappointing.

“But hopefully we will have the fans back in the stadium next season and that will be a huge plus.

“There’s not much you can really do when you’re in different tiers and lockdown.

DAVY PROPPER RETURNS TO PSV

“When I go for a walk in the park, the fans always give me well wishes.

“I am looking forward to seeing happy faces back at the Amex.

“We want to get the stadium rocking and feeling that atmosphere.

“I bet the fans can’t wait to get back properly.”

Welbeck’s tally included three brilliant strikes right in front of an empty North Stand – versus Newcastle, Leeds and West Ham.

He also scored right in front of the Holte End at Villa Park and Stretford End at Old Trafford, again with no fans present.

Albion head coach Graham Potter made no secret of his wish to bring Welbeck back for the 2021-22 campaign.

He said yesterday: “We’re delighted that he’s with us for next season.

“Danny has demonstrated what is expected of a top professional from the moment he arrived here."
