Robert Sanchez and his Spain colleagues will be on guard against Covid as they prepare for the Euro 2020 last eight.

The squad are in St Petersburg, where they will play Switzerland on Friday in the quarter-finals.

They trained yesterday at the historic Petrovsky (former Lenin) Stadium, former home of Zenit and venue for the 1994 Goodwill Games.

The match, at the modern Krestovsky Stadium, is still expected to go ahead in the city as planned.

But there appear to be concerns among visitors from Spain.

Earlier this week, St Petersburg recorded 107 deaths in 24 hours, the highest number since the start of the pandemic.

Nearly 300 fans returning to Finland after attending a match in the city have tested positive for Covid-19, according to local health authorities.

Health protocols are likely to be strictly enforced among the Spain squad, who temporarily lost the services of Sergio Busquets early in the tournament due to a positive test.
