Arsenal were this evening reported to have made a breakthrough in their persistent pursuit of Ben White.
The Gunners were reported by, initially, The Sun to have finally agreed a £50 million deal for the England centre-back.
There is no confirmation or comment from sources closer to Albion and no suggestion that a deal has been fully concluded.
The Gunners have always led the chase for the much-admired White and there have been previous reports of an imminent deal.
White completed Euro 2020 with still no agreement in place between the clubs.

The message at the time was Albion had no great wish or need to sell but would do so if a “nonsensical” offer came in.
The reported £50 million fee would make White the Gunners’ third most expensive signing - after just 36 Premier League outings.
It could also set up Albion for key signings of their own this summer.
