Albion last night remained keen on Marc Cucurella – as they lined up a match against his present club.

Getafe will visit the Amex on Saturday, August 7 (7pm) for the Seagulls’ final pre-season test ahead of the Premier League campaign.

Cucurella would appear unlikely to feature for either team given his involvement with Spain at the Olympics.

A well-placed source confirmed Albion remain keen to add the left-sided flyer who is reported to have a buyout clause of about £15 million.

It is understood the arrangement of the friendly is not connected with any potential player transfer.

But it does at least indicate a good relationship between the two clubs, who met in pre-season eight years ago.

Roma are reportedly interested in Cucurella, as were Atletico Madrid at one stage when it seemed their Brazilian left-back Renan Lodi might depart.

Getafe’s president would be happy to sell at the right price.

ARSENAL AND BRIGHTON REPORTED TO HAVE AGREED BEN WHITE FEE

Cucurella is known to have ambitions beyond Getafe although quotes from 11 days ago, aimed at appeasing their fans, resurfaced in some outlets yesterday.

Getafe head coach Michel, the former Real Madrid and Spain wideman, gave a rather mixed message.

But it appears he is prepared to lose Cucurella and another of his prized assets, Mauro Arambarri.

Michel said: “In case anyone comes to pay the buyout clause for Cucurella or Arambarri, and we prefer that they don’t, we have got replacements.

“We have already got our response prepared in case someone pays the buyout clause and they want to go.”
